Palm Inc. has announced that upgraded versions of its Pre and Pixi smartphones will soon be available through Verizon Wireless in the U.S.

The Pre Plus and Pixi Plus feature more on-board memory than their predecessors, and both come equipped with built-in Wi-Fi (the original Pixi lacked this feature). In addition the new devices can be used to create mobile hotspots by converting a 3G wireless signal into an 802.11g Wi-Fi network.

Verizon will begin selling the new devices on January 25. Pricing details have not yet been released.
