Vodafone Cancels UK Launch of Sony Ericsson Xperia X2

British wireless giant, Vodafone, has backtracked on plans to launch Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X2 smartphone in the UK market.
Sony Ericsson had a high-profile launch event for the device in November, then abruptly stopped promoting it without explanation.
“Unfortunately the X2 will not be released by Vodafone in the UK as it no longer fits within its planned portfolio,” a Sony Ericsson spokesperson said in a recent PR statement. “While the handset is available in other markets it will not be in the UK.”
This is a letdown not only for Sony Ericsson, but also for Microsoft, whose Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system is used to power the Xperia X2. Vodafone has opted to try its hand at marketing Google’s forthcoming Nexus One smartphone, which is based on the Android OS and represents a significant competitive threat to Microsoft.
