LG Pop is Popular Indeed

South Korean cell phone manufacturer, LG Electronics, announced today that it has sold over 1 million LG Pop (GD510) handsets since launching that device 100 days ago.

The LG Pop is a relatively-simple consumer handset with a 3-inch touchscreen display. It features a super-slim design (just 4.8 millimeters thick) and built-in social networking capabilities, allowing users to conveniently update their status on MySpace, Facebook, or Twitter.

The Pop was initially launched in Europe last fall, and is now available in Canada through Rogers Wireless. It costs just $19.99 on a three-year Rogers contract.

“From the start we based the LG Pop on customer needs, leading us to create a compact and intuitive touchscreen phone that wasn’t weighed down by useless features,” commented the president and CEO of LG’s mobile division, Dr. Skott Ahn. “LG Pop offers most of the benefits of a smartphone without the steep learning curve. There’s still a huge market out there for phones that do everything right out of the box.”
