Waterloo, Ontario-based smartphone manufacturer, Research In Motion, has reportedly started working on version 6.0 of its BlackBerry operating system, according to a report on the technology blog, Boy Genius Report.
RIM apparently plans to introduce a minor interim update (BlackBerry OS 5.2) later this year, then progress with v.6.0 after that. The new OS is expected to be more web friendly, possibly taking advantage of technology acquired through RIM’s purchase of The Torch, a mobile browser developer.
Research In Motion’s famous BlackBerry device has continued to sell briskly in recent months, despite touch competition from the Apple iPhone 3GS and a host of new Google Android-based smartphones.
