Vancouver-based telecommunications operator, Telus, has confirmed rumours that it will begin selling the much-anticipated Motorola Milestone device this week, although it has still not divulged a specific date.

The Google Android-based smartphone, which is almost identical to the Motorola Droid currently being sold in the U.S., will most likely become available on February 18, according to industry insiders.

Telus’ Chief Financial Officer, Bob McFarlane, expressed optimism that the Milestone would become a flagship device for the carrier, alongside the Apple iPhone and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry smartphones.

“We would love to have another leg to balance the iPhone [and BlackBerry],” McFarlane said in an interview on Friday. “There’s nothing like a little competitive supply to help you.”
