Up-and-coming cell phone carrier, WIND Mobile, introduced its service in Edmonton, Alberta yesterday, in a push to expand operations and more-effectively challenge the country’s three dominant wireless providers.

WIND has opened two standalone retail stores in Edmonton, as well as four kiosks in Blockbuster Video locations. The company hopes to attract customers by offering unlimited voice and data service for a flat monthly rate, without requiring long-term contracts.

“The message I want to get out there is, we’re adding towers, we’re adding coverage every day,” said Tony Lacavera, the Chairman of WIND’s parent company, Globalive Wireless.

WIND Mobile already has a retail presence in Toronto and Calgary, and plans to launch its service in Ottawa next month.
