Apple Inc., maker of the popular iPhone device, has filed a lawsuit against Taiwan-based HTC, maker of Google’s new Nexus One smartphone.

In papers filed with a Delaware court, Apple alleges that several of HTC’s phones, including the Nexus One, and other Android-based devices such as the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G, are using patented technology without a license.

“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” said Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, in a statement today. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

Apple is seeking unspecified damages, as well as a court order to block U.S. sales of the HTC products in question.
