Apple Sells 1.7-Million iPhone 4′s in Three Days

Apple sold 1.7 million iPhone 4 devices during the new phone’s first three days of availability, with some consumers being turned away for lack of supply, the company said in a statement today.
Many people lined up overnight to get their hands on the new iPhone, which was officially released in the U.S. market on June 24. Apple’s wireless partner, AT&T, sold out of iPhone 4′s before the device even launched due to a high volume of pre-orders.
The iPhone 4 distinguishes itself from its predecessors with a higher-resolution touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel digital camera, longer battery life, and a front-facing camera for video chat.
“Demand continues to remain stronger than supply as most stores remained sold out or held minimal inventory throughout the weekend and Apple’s online store currently has a three week wait time for the device,” commented UBS analyst, Maynard Um, on the initial results. “Our anecdotal checks indicate that demand will be robust for some time as the company plans to launch in an additional 18 countries in July.”
