The National Film Board of Canada has introduced a new version of its award-winning iPhone application specifically for Apple iPad users.

The software allows viewers to stream more than 1,000 documentaries, trailers, animations, and other videos, including some 3D and high-definition content. Videos can be saved temporarily to the iPad’s hard drive and viewed for up to 48 hours without internet access.

Over 235,000 people have already downloaded the National Film Board’s iPhone app, which was selected as one of 2009′s best by iTunes Canada. The iPad’s larger screen and multimedia focus should give the new version even more potential.
