Vancouver-based telecommunications giant, Telus Corp., now has upwards of 228,000 television subscribers in B.C. and Alberta, almost doubling its customer base from 115,000 a year ago.

Telus currently offers two types of residential television service – a rebranded version of Bell’s satellite offering and Telus’ own IPTV service which is sold under the brand name ‘Optik TV.’

Optik has been aggressively competing with Shaw’s cable TV business in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and other markets. It offers upwards of 400 digital channels, including about 40 in high-definition.
