Rogers, Bell, and Telus to Launch BlackBerry Torch on September 24
10:37 pm on September 1, 2010 | Category: Cell Phones, Mobile Devices, PDAs, Wireless
Not to be discouraged by the BlackBerry Torch’s lackluster performance in the United States, Canada’s largest cell phone carrier, Rogers Wireless, has announced plans to offer the device in Canada beginning on September 24, at a cost of $199.99 on a three-year contract.
This pricing is comparable to that of American wireless giant, AT&T, which offers the Torch for US$199.99 on a shorter two-year service agreement.
“Rogers customers are excited about the new BlackBerry Torch coming to Canada,” commented Rogers executive vice president and Chief Marketing Officer, John Boynton. “As the first carrier in the world to launch the BlackBerry nearly a decade ago, Rogers understands the needs of the BlackBerry customer.”
Shortly after Rogers’ announcement, Canada’s other two major carriers, Bell and Telus, announced similar intentions of launching the Torch on September 24. Bell will match Rogers’ price tag of $199.99, while Telus said merely that its pricing will be “competitive” with that of its larger rival.

For the past 10 years I have been noticing that Telus, Bell and Rogers, are fixing their prices, they have been offering the same contract of the same amount of minutes at the same price, those deals even come out to market on the same morning. When Fido was for sale Telus, Rogers, and Bell came with a plan together, the plan was executed on the same day, they are acting like a monopoly; Canada has the highest Cell rates in the world. Is monopoly legal for the big companies but not for the small ones???

Am I the only one that thinks this is too late?
Why is the launch so long after the US one? I think RIM forgets they are Canadian.
